The Horror

I finished two versions of this piece because I wasn’t sure which one was better.  This is the closer version:

The closer version would probably work better on social media, but I really like the wider version a lot better, especially since I’m trying to design my artwork to be printed big (poster size and larger.)

Part of me resents feeling like I have to constantly cater to people looking at stuff on the internet aka on their phones.  It really messes with my head when I’m trying to make creative decisions.  I think I have to actively resist the temptation to reduce everything to the least common denominator of what will get the most likes when viewed on a small screen.  It’s extremely limiting, not just because of the composition but also the subject matter.  What will get an immediate reaction so you get the most likes?  Subtly is lost and everything starts to look the same.

Social media really messes with your head.

All of Us 002

The second piece of a new image series that deals with anxiety and confusion.  It’s about all those different voices inside our head that distract us from where we are, and where we’re going.

All of Us 001

I’ve chosen this as the start of a new image series that deals with anxiety and confusion.  It’s about all those different voices inside our head that distract us from where we are, and where we’re going.

One thing that fascinates me is how the “Art Machine” understands what things look like but it doesn’t understand what the images mean.  It doesn’t understand metaphor or surrealism.  I’m hoping to get some interesting images exploring confusion and dreams.

Today I saw my shadow on the Moon

created with new version 4 of Midjourney

I actually did see my shadow on the moon this morning.  CAT had to go into the office today so she had to get up at the ungodly hour of five AM to get there by 8:30.  I asked her to wake me up too because I heard their would be a Lunar Eclipse.  We both walked over to our bay window several times over the next hour watching the shadow of the Earth cross the Moon and eventually envelop it.  That was us – all of us – blocking the sun from the moon.

I created this image with the new updated version four of Midjourney AI which just came out a few days ago.  Some of the other image variations incorporated actual strong “shadows on the moon” but this one was the most dramatic image, so I went with this.

Here’s another variation that came out pretty good as well.

Man and the Moon

This was my first attempt with version 4 of Midjourney.  I didn’t really play with it much.  It’s supposed to be more “coherent” which will probably translate to “more realistic” which may or may not be better.  It all really depends on what you like and what you’re trying to do.  Version 3 is crazy and funky which I like, so we’ll see…
